| Spanish temperament: the Levante and Poniente by name ! | |
Southern Spain's insider spot on the Costa de la Luz is a seductive mix of the best windsurfing conditions, Spanish culture and wild nature. Not far from Tarifa, which sits on the southern most tip of Spain, is our new Planet Windsurfing spot. Just 15 minutes from the famously windy party town and you are on one of the most beautiful, as well as one of the quietest, beaches on the Costa de la Luz (one of the five most beautiful sandy beaches worldwide). Still completely natural, the small fishing village is set right in the middle of the "Parque Natural del Estrecho,“ a nature park with a multivariety of flora and fauna that can be discovered in long walks through the pine woods or along the beach. |

This spot is perfect for anyone who wants nothing other than a great day's surfing followed by a cosy meal in one of the very good fish restaurants that is set off by a night cap or two at one of the beach bars in the company of local windsurfers. Bolonia has long been recognised by local sailors as a top-spot. The long, beautiful sandy beach and its crystal clear, green blue waters can be enjoyed whatever your personal level is and whatever your preferred conditions are. The main wind is the easterly Levante which blows side-offshore from the left. The Levante accelerates a bit over the hill at Tarifa and reaches 6-8 Bft on normal days. Somewhat less powerful, but still good for surfing, is the Poniente, the westwind which blows side on shore over the bay from the right in the Spring and Autumn |

| Depending on wind direction, the wave conditions at the station will naturally change. The normal waves are a short chop but around 500 metres off-shore on the lee section of this large bay, a Levante driven wind formed wave can reach a good size, and this then rolls cleanly and evenly past the bay. Due its multi-faceted conditions, Bolonia is not just for small sail users but is also perfect for larger sails, especially during the summer months when the Poniente occasionally takes control. As the first and only school in Bolonia Bay, we were able to select the best position, and build our station in the lee (during the Levante) of the beach, a mere 50 metres from the water. Only 200 metres away from the station is the small hotel "Hostal los Jerezanos" with whom we are working, an hotel built in a traditional Andalusian style with 20 rooms, a restaurant, bar, a wonderful terrace, a small swimming pool and a view across the whole bay. | |
