El Cabezo - boiling Atlantic, Ebullient Spain, an island full of contrasts
It is not just the fact that Spain's highest mountain (3718 m) presses against the sky but what also makes Teneriffe so striking are the extreme differences between the northern and southern parts of this Canarian island. Almost tropically green in the somewhat flatter northern part of the island it is in the southern part, barren and ravined, as raw as the sea which is whipped to a frenzy at the Playa el Medano by the side shore wind.
In front of the Planet Windsurfing Station led by Harald, Bjorn and Christophe, the Atlantic boils with the kind of frenzy that wave riders love. This spot has the kind of 3 metre high waves that demand heroic maneuvers: whoever wants to improve his or her looping skills, this is absolutely the right place to be.
All over the rugged coast the mountains beg for mountain bike tours, but those of you who would like a less taxing time of it can take a look at the capital town, Santa Cruz, in the north of the island or, after a great day of sport on land or water, throw yourselves into the nightlife of El Medano or Playas de las Americas. Teneriffe - this is Spain as you have not yet seen her!
